Peer Review COVER small.jpg

Michael West believes, even if no one else does, that he deserves to get ahead in academia.

It can’t hurt anyone, if he improves his prospects by breaking a rule or two.

Or can it?

Obviously I am not in the front line of those willing to defend academia but I cannot help taking issue with the nonsense that academia is not the ‘real world’. What is that ‘real world’ anyway? People obsessed with their self-interest? Being judged by people patently inferior to you in every way at every corner? Having to bend over backwards to please those who do not deserve to be pleased? Making gains at the expense of others?

The ‘real world’ gang wouldn’t last a day in academia.

"If Anthony Horowitz and David Lodge wrote a book together it would look something like this. A campus novel and a thriller, it is a real page turner. Great characters, plenty of twists, and gripping writing. I can't wait for the next book." ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"A veritable page turner: it combines wit and humour and evil fun, to keep you guessing till the very end. Academia was never this enjoyable before!"

Zelia Gallo

"Brilliant writing from Manolis Melissaris. A real real laugh out loud novel set in a darkly dysfunctional Academia. Would make an amazing TV series as well."

The author

Manolis Melissaris was born in Athens, Greece. After studying law in his home town, he moved to Edinburgh, Scotland, where he completed a postgraduate degree in criminology and sociology of law and a doctorate in philosophy of law. He taught philosophy of law, criminal law and anthropology of law at various universities in England (Manchester, Keele, LSE) and wrote books and articles on a number of topics, some of which were invented just for the sake of it.

In 2017 he moved to Cyprus with his archaeologist wife, Lindy. He seized the opportunity first, to thaw out, and, second, to give up academia and concentrate on the two things he truly enjoys doing: writing fiction and cooking. He now works as a personal chef and runs a popup restaurant (The λoneλy oλive), and he writes. You can read a little more about that turn here.

Manolis is currently working on a sequel of Peer Review as well as various other projects. Join the mailing list for updates and free stories. You can also visit his blog for stories and essays in English and Greek or follow him on Instagram.
